2K Marin Director Says You Will Be Challenged By The Bureau: XCOM Declassified
At the end of last week, 2K Marin officially re-revealed the XCOM shooter as The Bureau: XCOM Declassified, a tactical third person shooter.
The developers have now spoken a little about the challenge involved in the game, saying that cues were taken from Demon’s Souls and Firaxis’ 2012 XCOM: Enemy Unknown, an RTS title. The newly announced XCOM shooter will be challenging, with the studio taking cues from Demon’s Souls and Firaxis’ 2012 XCOM: Enemy Unknown.

According to 2K Marin creative director Morgan Gray, who spoke with Games.On.Net, the studio feels confident that gamers want something challenging.
“XCOM’s not a game about putting on your diaper and giving you a bottle of milk,” Gray said. “It asks you to be a hero if you want to have a chance of succeeding.”
Gray highlighted the importance of using tactics and teamwork. “Anyone who attempts to run and gun or Rambo this will die. It’s about a team working together.”
He also said, rightfully in my opinion, that the success (both critically and financially) of titles such as the earlier mentioned Demon’s Souls and XCOM: Enemy Unknown, assured the studio that gamers aren’t adverse to buying into challenging games.
“What is generally happening in the more modern era is that things are almost obscenely accessible,” he said.
“So it was nice to see this movement towards more skilful play – and I just want to call it difficulty because it’s not about hard games, it’s about challenging games – and seeing that wave come back, seeing people really wanting to have some games with some crunch to them, some meat, is one of the things that let us go ‘yeah, we can bring this aspect of XCOM into The Bureau’.”
The Bureau will be out for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 on August 20.
