NextBox Rumoured To Be Expensive, Announcement Set For May
There’s been a lot of talk surrounding Microsoft’s next Xbox which obviously exists but has yet to be shown to the world. Most of this talk revolves around the numerous rumours of it requiring always-on internet and the issues this might bring. Today, there are some new rumours and not all of them are bad.
Let’s rip the bandage off real quick and talk about price. Next-gen consoles were never going to be cheap but PS4 is rumoured to be costing $400 at most which seems somewhat acceptable. The NextBox may cost as much as $500 which would put it at an economic disadvantage but there may be some unknown features or functionality which justify that price-tag such as built-in Kinect or something. It may be as little as $300 though with a subscription service sort of thing and no doubt reduced features and hard-drive space.

It’s also been rumoured that the console will not be unveiled in April, as previously speculated, but rather in May. This seems peculiar because the supposed date is May 21 and E3 is 3 weeks after that. Is there really a point to be made by unveiling your new console with a massive press event just a few weeks before the biggest annual event in the gaming world? Besides obviously that time once a year when FIFA releases.
“Sources familiar with Microsoft’s Xbox plans have revealed that the event will be at a small venue with a focus on providing the very first details on the next Xbox, codenamed Durango, and Microsoft’s plans for Xbox in 2013,” it says.]
