XCOM: Enemy Unknown Coming To iOS, Developers Tease Sequel
XCOM: Enemy Unknown, more commonly known as “the other XCOM game” last year, was somewhat of a pleasant surprise. Some truly tactical battles and satisfying progression made it one of the most compelling strategy titles to be released in a long time, which easily made it one of the standout titles of 2012. So it’s really exciting to hear that developers Firaxis have plans to continue their work on the franchise, after they bring the entire game to a mobile platform.
That’s right, a game released on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC is coming to iOS, in it'[s full, non-reduced form. Well, that’s not entirely true. While the game coming to iPhone and iPad will be the same game on other major consoles, Firaxis is hard at work reducing that 20 GB file size to something a bit more manageable. Of course players can expect some UI changes and tweaks to accompany the port, in order to make the experience as good as it can be on a tablet and phone, but being able to play XCOM whenever and wherever is a rather exciting prospect.

Even more exciting was the short (really short) tease Firaxis had to show during their panel at PAX East. During the tiny tease, audience members were greeted by The Council, addressing the crowd with the all too familiar “Hello Commander”. The Council then went on to start talking about a “new threat” before the signal goes static and the tease ends. So, either Firaxis is busy on a full-blown sequel or a massive package of DLC, who knows.
One thing I do know is that any more XCOM content from Firaxis will certainly be welcomed with open arms. If you haven’t yet, give Enemy Unknown a shot. You’ll find it hard to be disappointed.
