The Last Of Us Is How Long?
There is no denying that one of the most anticipated titles of this year is a PS3-exclusive. In fact, a lot of huge titles this year are exclusive to Sony’s platform, but not one of them has me jumping out of my seat in excitement more than The Last of US. Coming from developers Naughty Dog, who really don’t need an introduction (Crash Bandicoot, Uncharted, Jak and Daxter, in case you’ve been living under a rock for the past ten years) The Last of Us is their brand new IP, and it’s got everyone eagerly anticipating it’s release.
If news of the month delay sent you into a downward spiral of excessive drinking and drug use, you should seek help. No, seriously, go to a meeting or something. For the rest of us, the month delay may have come as a shock, but knowing just how dedicated Naughty Dog are to polish and presentation, I doubt anyone will be complaining on release day. That is, of course, if the game is of a decent length. Speaking with EvolveEnt, Naughty Dog’s Arne Meyer shared some information regarding the length of The Last of Us.
“We’re definitely looking at more than 12 hours, maybe 12 to 16 right now is what we’re looking at. It really depends on how you play. You can play a little bit slower if you try to approach situations stealthy, if you really wanna explore the environment and scavenge, that’s going to add more time too.”
Now, I don’t know if I’m old-fashioned or something, but that seems a tad short. Usually estimates from developers can have a rather broad leeway, and let’s be honest not everyone goes looking to discover everything on their first playthrough. While it may sound a bit shorter than expected, there’s still no word on replayability, and this is also not taking into account the multiplayer portion of the title either.
So maybe I’m being a bit harsh. In a world dominated by titles that can be finished in an afternoon, maybe 12 hours has become the new “long”.
