Heart Of The Swarm Sells Over A Million In 48 Hours
Blizzard really lost a lot of mine, and other gamers, respect last year with Diablo III. For a title that was anticipated for years and years, Blizzard really did not deliver, making Diablo III a passable title that was not up to the standards expected from them. Thankfully, Heart of the Swarm, seems to be avoiding that path, with rave reviews all round and a general consensus that it’s a rather incredible expansion pack.
So it’s no surprise that after the success of Wings of Liberty, people were anxious to play through the next chapter of StarCraft II’s story. According to Blizzard, millions were, with just over 1.1 million copies of Heart of the Swarm being sold in the first 48 hours of the game’s release. That’s a truly staggering figure, even if it’s a combination of physical and digital copies. What seemed to help the title more was the lack of server issues on launch, which surely pushed numbers even higher as the week continued.

Blizzard CEO Mike Morhaime took some time to thank fans for being patient and supporting the development of the expansion.
“We want to thank the global StarCraft community for the incredible passion and support they’ve shown for Heart of the Swarm. In addition to a brand-new single-player campaign, we added a ton of enhancements with this expansion to make StarCraft II even more fun to play, and more exciting to watch. We’re pleased to see gamers and eSports fans around the world enjoying Heart of the Swarm.”
