Comparison: The Difference Between Tomb Raider’s TressFX Effect Being On And Off
Just over a week ago we got told about Tomb Raider’s TressFX effects, which will make hair much more realistic on PC if enabled. However, it’s quite an advanced graphical option that requires you to go even further beyond! Sorry, I couldn’t help that. But yes, you need to go above “ultra” settings and into “ultimate”, which enables the highly graphics intensive TRESSFX option.
While it does make a significant difference, fans have reported some strange animation glitches with hair when this mode is enabled, and some cases even report significant performance drops. For example, according to 1985fm, when running a Radeon 7870 with 8GB RAM, frame rates actually dropped nearly 20% while TressFX was enabled. This may sound like a horror story, but you also need to keep in mind that new drivers will release that will should hopefully improve performance.
