MGM Picks Up Metro 2033 Film Rights

It seems that pretty soon it would be easier to list the major games not getting film adaptations with an already burgeoning lists of titles getting the treatment from God of War to Assassin’s Creed. The latest to join the ranks is 2010’s Metro 2033 from 4A Games and published by THQ.
Funnily enough, this is more of a book-to-game-to-movie adptation as the game is absed on a 2002 novel about a post-apocalyptic Russia and its citizens fighting for survival in remains of the underground subway network. The game was well received enough to justify a sequel called Metro: Last Light which is due out later this year.

The film rights were picked up by MGM with F. Scott Frazier penning the script. Frazier is listed as a QA tester for THQ in 2004 and has written scripts for other movies such as the upcoming John Cusack thriller The Numbers Station and Warner Bros.’ Line of Sight. Gran Via (The Notebook, The Guardian [TV show]) will be producing and at this point the movie still seems to be in the very early conceptual stages.
