Sony: SOCOM Franchise Is “Not Done”

Sony Computer Entertainment shut down Zipper Interactive, the developers of SOCOM and MAG, back in April this year. Naturally, this has gotten fans of SOCOM concerned if there is a future for the franchise. SCE boss, Shuhei Yoshida took to the PlayStation Forums to comment on the matter.
“It’s not done. We never definitely retire any franchise. It’s sometimes great to have a fresh look at the classics that we have,” he said.

While this is confirmation that the SOCOM series isn’t dead, it doesn’t necessarily mean that we’ll be seeing a new game. However, I think it could be possible that the old titles get HD upgrades.
“We are launching a new Sly Cooper game this year after so many years. Never say never. I feel sorry for people who are longtime SOCOM fans, and there are many people who still play SOCOM 1 and SOCOM 2, especially those seem to be their favorites,” Yoshida added.
