Has THQ Cancelled Its 2014 Lineup?

Over the weekend, it was looking decidedly grim for publishers THQ, as rumours cropped up claiming that the company had cancelled its entire 2014 lineup in order to begin a sale process. Rumours were backed up by statistics that showed THQ’s share price, which is currently sitting at 66 cents, as opposed to the $6 price tag this time last year. Well, THQ have spoken, and it seems they aren’t going anywhere soon.
A statement released by the company yesterday denies that any titles have been shelved for 2014, and more importantly that the MMO project based on the Warhammer 40K franchise has not been cancelled.

THQ has not cancelled its 2014 line-up, and has not made any decisions regarding the planned MMO. As part of the ongoing review of our business, we have made decisions to ensure that the company is strategically addressing the most attractive markets. As we have previously announced, we have dramatically reduced our commitment to the kids’ boxed games sector which leads to a significantly more focused release schedule moving forward. Our slate for calendar 2012 and beyond is focused on high-quality core games and continues to build our digital platform and business. We are excited for our pipeline of original and high-quality content along with our relationships with some of the best talent in the industry.
So, THQ’s 2014 releases haven’t disappeared yet, but the fate of the Warhammer 40K MMO still lingers on limbo. Then again, does that really matter?
