Battlefield 3 Dev Goes For The Jugular

Battlefield 3 Dev Goes For The Jugular

Yesterday, Battlefield 3 producer Patrick Liu told us that now seemed to be the right time to announce Mirror’s Edge 2 but today’s he’s saying that Battlefield 3 offers “so much more” than Modern Warfare 3.

Bold words, no? Although, in honesty those words are not exactly unfounded based on what we’ve seen of each game. Liu also said that it “feels good” to be compared to CoD.

“It feels good,” to be compared to Call of Duty, he told Gamasutra. “They’re behemoths, and just the notion that we would be able to take a chunk from their gamers is awesome.

“They’re both military shooters, but in terms of flavour and style they’re different,” Liu added. “But we offer so much more than they do, I think; but that’s me.”

The producer also said DICE has big plans for Battlefield 3’s post-launch support as the studio moves to embrace the philosophy of “games as a service”.

“The launch of the game is really just a start, and then we plan to support the game as long as it’s needed with new content, patches, balancing, and tweaking the game. We have a team dedicated just for that.”

BF3 pwns MW3 in my eyes but I have become slightly intrigued by CoD’s new trailer so I might have to find somebody to borrow it from. Are you(AG) or maybe Azhar reviewing CoD:MW3?

      • Anonymous

Don’t think I’m reviewing it and I’md efinitely not gonna fork out cash for it but yeah, it’s got me a little bit interested after that last trailer.

    • Brrrr

Always been a COD fan boy…played everyone of them for hours and hours online. But for the first time ever, im going with a BF over the COD . BF3 looks insanely awesome – and change is always good. If COD gets outstanding reviews (which it will) ill get it at the end of Nov. But at the moment im extremely anxious to get my hands on BF3!

They’re going to need to be a lot more specific in terms of their definition of “so much more”, especially when they have Elite to compete with.

      • Anonymous

True but he meant it more as a passing comment and a bit of verbal sparring rather than a full-out assault on MW3.

      • http://tydvirtaal-agamersperspective.blogspot.com Duncan Hobbs

Fair enough, but he should really be able to back up such passing comments – otherwise he’s just going to get misquoted and subsequently roflstomped.

Good point and knowing the rivalry between the two he probably should’ve been more mindful of such comments and fleshed his claim out a little bit more by saying something like, “Battlefield offers so much more in terms of attention to detail, visuals, variety etc.”

That’s just a random example but would have cleared up any risk of misquoting.

In MW3 you get to call in an airstrike…

IN BF3 YOU ARE THE FUCKING AIRSTRIKE, BITCH!

      • Anonymous

Pretty sure I’ve heard that already, possibly in the comments on another article. Y u spam comment?

Haha, AG it was from that funny picture in this article: http://egamer.co.za/2011/08/why-battlefield-3-is-better-than-modern-warfare/

        Don’t be such a killjoy :P

I’ll be getting both. Can’t really decide if I had to choose one.
