Dark Souls Knows How To Deal With Piracy

Dark Souls Knows How To Deal With Piracy

Dark Souls release today all the way over in Japan, and while we will still have to wait a few weeks to get out hands on this brutally challenging RPG, developers From Software have made a statement on how they are going to handle piracy.

For those of you who choose to contribute to the industry killing practice of piracy, and in turn are planning to play Dark Souls ahead of its release, From Software says go right ahead. Yeah, that’s right, play to your little dishonest heart’s content. Just don’t be at all surprised when your game gets invaded by a maximum level Black Phantom, whose sole purpose is to kill you again, and again, and again.

Utilizing Dark Souls’ game-invading mechanic to their advantage, the folks at From Software are planning to keep pirates in check by sending the most powerful Black Phantoms possible into their games. The guys over at Edge compared one of the invaders’ stats (level 145, 1900HP, and all abilities at the maximum 99) to their reviewers, and they didn’t even come close (level 43, with 1001 HP and abilities ranging from 8 up to 30), even after 60 hours of play.

So, if you enjoy getting your ass handed to you for hours on end, pick up Dark Souls when it releases. If you enjoy getting your ass handed to you by a level 145 Black Phantom, who you actually have no chance against, then play Dark Souls today.

Orsum!!! At first I thought they were gonna combat piracy by giving it away, but that is way cooler. burn their ships to the ground!

Until a trainer is released that allows one to modify the stats of black phantoms… I’m not sure, but I think this is entirely possible for the guys using the ‘boot loader’ methods of piracy on the 360/PS3. It would be more sensible for them to have dash version requirements, since they can create effective lockouts of players by preventing those with already-banned consoles (that cannot subsequently have their dash updated any further, for 360, and disables the ability to pirate on the PS3 using the USB-stick method due to the firmware lockout of the vulnerability) from being able to boot the game.

Of course, for the 360 it wouldn’t stop people who modify their consoles on the then-current dash firmware since they won’t be banned (yet) and would be able to play, but it would mean that come the next dash update, the company’s next game could have that next dash version as a prerequisite.

Boss idea. That’s how you combat piracy, take some notes DRM.

Lets be honest…the only thing that will EVER stop piracy is jailtime and a criminal record. Spending time in jail with a cerial rapist or….rather buy the game..

“a level 145 Black Phantom, who you actually have no chance against” mwahahahahaha (evil laugh of doom). That is until I take down those black phantoms; and then, just for funzies, I’ll pillage the families of those black phantoms. Mwahahahahahahahahaha…..

“For those of you who choose to contribute to the industry killing practice of piracy”

Nice propaganda. Anyone who knows the industry knows that piracy isnt even CLOSE to what is actually killing it: increased corporatocracy and an obsession with short-term quarterly profits. EA is killing the industry much more than piracy is.
