First Look At Codemasters Bodycount, An “Orgy Of Bullets & Destruction”

Remember Codemasters announcing that they were working on a new shooter? Turns out that, from the co-creator and designer of first person shooter, Black, Codemasters is bringing a new FPS title named “Bodycount” for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox360. This is their next shot at “genre-defining gun play”, so we’ve got some interest invested in it. Ok, that sounded hectically business-like, my apologies!
Designed by creative director Stuart Black, Bodycount will deliver “jaw-dropping devastation” and an “exhilarating sensory overload of action,” according to the executive producer Tom Gillo. There’s also a story attached to this game as well, as “players become ensnared in a clandestine global power struggle as a powerful combat asset with a green-light to eliminate enemies known only as ‘Targets’ on behalf of the ‘Network’.”

Stuart Black, creative director, also said: “If Race Driver: GRID was all about the purity of racing, then everything in Bodycount is absolutely centred on the bullet and its impact on the world.”
“Our shredding tech enables us to create a different kind of gameplay, where players and AI can’t hide behind indestructible cover and rely on whack-a-mole mechanics,” Black says, “Here the environment is constantly changing as the game world is shot to hell; it’s going to be a huge amount of fun.”
From the official website, we got more details on the game:
Bodycount rips apart the first person shooter as genre-defining gunplay comes alive in a balletic orgy of bullets and destruction.
Experience the intense thrill of close-quarters combat in a shreddable world as Bodycount blasts outrageous fire-fights and ferocious action from both barrels. Become a powerful combat asset green-lighted to eliminate enemies known only as ‘Targets’ on behalf of the ‘Network’, ensnared in a clandestine global power struggle that rages away from the headlines and under the cover of conventional war zones.
This exhilarating shooter drops players into chaotic areas of operations equipped with a mouth-watering selection of contemporary weapons to tear through environments and enemies, chaining kills, earning power ups and building up a bullet meter to unleash devastating air strikes on enemies.
Complimented by co-operative online play and multiplayer modes, Bodycount will set new standards for spectacular, visceral gun play and put the fun back into the FPS.
If you’re eager to learn more about this game, you can visit the official website or follow the game via its Twitter page. Bodycount will be releasing in the first quarter (Q1) of 2011 on PlayStation 3 and Xbox360, so it’s a really long time away.
